This talk provides an introduction to the concepts, frameworks, and rationale for implementation science, as applied to the adoption, implementation and sustainment of evidence-based psychosocial interventions. Offering examples of how to distinguish dissemination and implementation studies from traditional efficacy or effectiveness trials, the talk then walks through relevant NIH and NCI initiatives intended to advance the field. Finally, the presentation walks through assumptions of the development and use of interventions that may inhibit the ultimate benefit of care to patients and populations and suggests opportunities to overcome these limitations.
