Psychiatry Resdient
University of Washington
A. Personal Statement
My family and I came to America as refugees and faced tremendous difficulties navigating the healthcare system. I served as the interpreter for my family much of the time. Through this, I began developing an interest in medicine. While I went into medical school planning to do internal medicine, I found so much joy in psychiatry. Still the intersection of primary care and psychiatry is something I am very interested in. During my time at the University of Washington I developed an interest in the Collaborative Care model to deliver mental health in a primary care setting. My current project with Dr. Ian Bennett is an intersection of my many passions. I am working to develop a curriculum to teach collaborative care to psychiatrist in low- and middle-income countries. I have been able to learn more about collaborative care and learn about the conceptualization and stigma of mental health globally.
