Alan Akira, MD is a current PGY-4 at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, IL. He pursued medical school at the University of South Alabama, serving as class president, graduating as a Gold Humanism Scholar and recipient of the Medical Alumni Association Leadership Award. His clinical work has been recognized by his home institution, as the recipient of the Rush Emergency Medicine Consultant of The Year in 2020, and his work as a clinical educator has been recognized by the graduating Rush Medical School Class of 2020, as the recipient of the Aesculapius Award for excellence in teaching. In 2021, he was awarded Resident of the Year by the Illinois Psychiatric Society, a branch of the American Psychiatric Association. He currently serves as the founding chief of Emergency Psychiatry and Medical Student Education at RUSH. He is the founder of Mugen Psychiatry, his own practice, and plans to pursue his passions in teaching and excellence in clinical care with a combination of academic medicine and independent practice for underserved patients in the Chicago area.
