Psychiatry Resident (PGY-3)
Campbell University Jerry M. Wallace School of Osteopathic Medicine
Elizabeth N. Shaffer, M.D. is a 3rd-year psychiatry resident and chair of the resident wellness committee at Cape Fear Valley Hospital in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Her research interests focus on neuropsychiatry with an emphasis on the child & adolescent population. She is excited to be pursuing a child & adolescent psychiatry fellowship next year. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Appalachian State University with a B.S. in Child Development. After working as a preschool teacher for a Head Start program, she attended medical school at St. George's University in Grenada, West Indies. Learning medicine in a third-world country helped kindle her passion for improving resources in rural healthcare systems. Along with her mentor, Dr. Jadapalle M.D., she is currently creating a screening tool for the ED to identify victims of human trafficking and working on building a network of available resources in the community. She continues to be an active member of the ANPA, AACAP, and the APA. She had a poster accepted and published in the ANPA journal earlier this year. She is also the founder of 'Bringing Joy,' a donor-advised fund that supports multiple events and causes related to helping children with limited resources.
