Dr. Lana Banner Irons MD is a PGY-3 general adult psychiatry resident physician at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University in Brooklyn, N.Y. She graduated with an MD from Eastern Virginia Medical School in 2019 and with a B.S. in psychology and minor in biology from Old Dominion University in 2015. Dr. Irons has been involved in research both as an undergraduate, a medical student, and now as a resident physician. Her particular research interests include neuropsychiatry, systems of care, and mental health disparities among underserved populations including those who identify as LGBTQ+ . Most of her research interests have been driven by her clinical experience working in different underservered populations. This started with her undergraduate research that focused around pathways to hazaradous alcohol consumption as moderated by sexual minority stressors and social isolation. In medical school, she studied behavioral and teaching interventions involving families at a large pediatrics safety net clinic. Finally, in residency with this current case report that presents on clinical work that is centered in a public hospital setting located in central Brooklyn.
