Medical Student
George Washington School of Medicine and Health Sciences
Samantha DeSilva is a fourth-year medical student at the George Washington School of Medicine and Health Sciences (GWSMHS). She completed her undergraduate education at the University of Maryland, where she first became passionate about working with the minority communities of Washington, D.C. At her medical school, she is a member of the Community and Urban Health Track, focusing on learning about and addressing the unique adversities underserved communities face that ultimately impact their health. She continued this work by volunteering with the GWSMHS Healing Clinic, a free student-led organization to provide primary care to patients otherwise neglected by the health care system. She also led courses in female empowerment and reproductive health at local middle schools in conjunction with Planned Parenthood and the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Professionally, she is planning on pursuing psychiatry, with special interest in health disparities in psychiatry, trauma-informed care, and child/adolescent psychiatry.
