Julie Ruth Owen, MD, MBA completed both medical school and residency training in General Adult Psychiatry at the Medical College of Wisconsin, as well as fellowship training in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry. She completed a master's degree in Business Administration at Marquette University. She is an Assistant Professor at the Medical College of Wisconsin, holding joint academic appointments in the Departments of Psychiatry and Emergency Medicine. Dr. Owen is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in both General Adult Psychiatry as well as Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry.
Dr. Owen directs the innovative Emergency Psychiatry program and works clinically as the first embedded psychiatrist in the Emergency Department at Froedtert Hospital, the primary adult teaching affiliate for the Medical College of Wisconsin and only Level I Trauma Center in the region. Collaborating closely with Emergency Medicine faculty, Dr. Owen is leading programmatic development, clinical initiatives, and curriculum enhancement for Psychiatry and EM trainees. She also serves as an Emergency Psychiatrist at the Milwaukee County Mental Health Complex in Psychiatric Crisis Services and provides staffing coverage for The Periscope Project (Perinatal Specialty Consultation Psychiatry Extension) statewide provider teleconsultation service. She was recently honored with the prestigious “Early Career Development Award” by the Association for Academic Psychiatry, and she has been recognized twice as an Outstanding Medical Student Teacher at MCW.
