Dr. Potter is a Professor of Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Sciences at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine with joint appointments in the Department of Pediatrics and School of Nursing & Health Studies. She also serves as Vice Chair for Reproductive Sciences, Chief of Women’s HIV Service and Director of the THRIVE Clinic. Dr. Potter has over 30 years of clinical and research expertise in designing and directing innovative programs to serve the unique medical and psychosocial needs of low income, minority women. Working closely with Homeland Security Investigations, State Attorney’s Office and local law enforcement, Dr. Potter used her expertise in building models of care to design a trauma-informed, survivor-centered model of health care for human trafficking survivors. As a result, THRIVE Clinic has continuously been funded since 2016 by the Department of Justice to provide ongoing medical and mental health services for human trafficking survivors and is becoming a nationally recognized model around the country. Dr. Potter is an invited national speaker on the topic of health care for survivors of human trafficking. Throughout her career, she has received numerous awards and honors including the 2017 Advocate of the Year Award from the Miami Dade Women’s Fund and the Visionary Award from the Katherine Fernandez Rundle State Attorney’s Office in honor of her work with the THRIVE Clinic. Most recently, she was invited to testify in 2019 as a Majority Witness for the US. House of Representatives Rules’ Subcommittee on Legislative and Budget Process.
