Damir Huremović is the Director of Psychiatry at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset (a service of Zucker-Hillside Department of Psychiatry) He is a Consultation-Liaison psychiatrist by training and an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell.
Originally from Sarajevo, Bosnia, Dr. Huremović specializes in teaching and providing psychiatric care for medically complex patients, with an emphasis on pharmacological treatment.
He is the editor of a book titled Psychiatry of Pandemics: A Mental Health Response to Infection Outbreak (2019). Mere months after the book was published, Dr. Huremović and his team woke up in the epicenter of COVID-19 outbreak in metro New York and on the very frontlines of the global fight against the virus in the Spring of 2020. He had the first-hand opportunity to test the validity of his book and now he is happy to report on how well his theoretical knowledge served him in his work and what else he had learned during the COVID-19 outbreak experience.
