Roy Stein received his MD from Duke Medical School in Durham, NC, followed by medical internship at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Hanover, NH and psychiatry residency at Duke. He is Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, practicing and teaching addiction psychiatry and serving on the faculty of UNC's Addiction Medicine fellowship program. He previously served as staff psychiatrist at the Durham VA Health Care System, where he directed the Substance Use Disorders treatment program. Roy is Associate Professor Emeritus in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Duke, where he served as Director of Undergraduate Medical Education in Psychiatry. He is board-certified in General and Addiction Psychiatry and is an active member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers.
