Dr. Timothy Van Deusen is an Associate Professor in the Departments of Psychiatry and Child Study at the Yale University School of Medicine. He is the Attending and Medical Director of the Young Adult Service and also teaches medical students and residents as the Residency Site Training Director at the Connecticut Mental Health Center.
Dr. Van Deusen received his Bachelor’s degree in Biology and Secondary Education from the University of Michigan, followed by teaching middle and high school students in Maine and California. After 2 years of teaching he entered medical school receiving his MD from the American University of the Caribbean and completed his General Psychiatry Residency at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago. Intrigued by the multiple psychological and social difficulties affecting his former students, he pursued Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship training at UCLA.
Dr. Van Deusen’s area of interests include understanding and treating transitional age youth with persistent childhood psychiatric disorders, histories of trauma resulting in child welfare intervention, and new onset disorders that occur between the ages of 18-25. He also has a private practice treating adolescents and college students in their goal of returning to school after they have withdrawn due to mental health issues.
