Dr. Dotson is the current chief resident of Inpatient Medical Psychiatry and Public/Community Psychiatry at the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and McLean Hospital Adult Psychiatry Training Program at Harvard Medical School. He is a member of the hospital's clinical educator program, and has experience teaching residents, medical students, chaplaincy students, psychology PhDs, and physician assistant students. He is the founder of the Bias In Acute Services (BIAS) research group in the Massachusetts General Hospital's (MGH's) Division of Public and Community Psychiatry. His work with this group involves overseeing projects investigating numerous areas of structural inequity in psychiatric treatment. His specific focus is on the use of violence and police force within hospital settings, especially when this is directed at homeless populations and patients from racial and ethnic minority backgrounds. He has done extensive clinical work with under-served populations in emergency settings, forensic settings, shelter settings, and on street outreach teams. He has authored papers and book chapters on structural racism, health system design, and the care of homeless patients with severe and persistent psychiatric illness.
