Professor and Chair, Department of Psychiatry,
Loyola University Medical Center
Maywood, IL, United States
PERSONAL STATMENT
I am currently the Chair of the Department of Psychiatry at Loyola University Chicago Medical Center,
Stritch School of Medicine. As such, I have extensive experience in providing clinical care for individuals
with mental health disorders and in training psychiatry residents. I am also currently involved in research
studies to determine the efficacy of pharmacotherapies in the treatment of depression co-morbidities.
Furthermore, I have both clinical and research experience in the use of high frequency, repetitive
transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) for depression treatment. Specifically, I am investigating the
use of rTMS for depression for individuals with co-occurring tinnitus. My background in the treatment
and research for individuals with co-occurring neurological and psychiatric illnesses will aid Dr. Herrold in
the development of a rTMS intervention for the treatment of alcohol use disorder in individuals with co-
occurring mild traumatic brain injury and mental health disorders. The Loyola Psychiatry Department
houses an FDA-approved Neurostar® Neuronetix rTMS device and I will supervise Dr. Herrold on its
training and use for her VA Career Development Award II (CDA II) project.
