Avram Mack is a child forensic consultation-liaison psychiatrist who has devoted his professional interests to the application of the general medicine Patient Safety movement to the care of psychiatric patients. The Patient Safety movement, which seeks to analyze and disrupt preventable harms to patients, utilizes systematic concepts from other high risk industries and activities. As an educator in psychiatry Dr. Mack initially built an educational platform for general education on patient safety culture and methodology for undergraduate and graduate medical education platforms for the Medstar system. Since moving to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and the University of Pennsylvania (where he is Professor of Clinical Psychiatry) he has served as the Department Patient Safety Officer and the Associate Chair for Quality and Safety. He has helped to develop enterprise-wide platform for the consideration of interventions and actions to protect patients and to disseminate the patient safety culture to the behavioral health realm.
