Onyi Okeke, MD is a Post Graduate Year 4 (PGY4) at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH). In July 2021, she will be a Consultation-Liaison Fellow at Yale-New Haven University Hospital. For her undergraduate education, Dr. Okeke attended Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, on a full-tuition merit-based scholarship, then attended Rutgers, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital for medical school.
As an undergraduate, she mentored and tutored undergraduate students underrepresented in STEM fields. She is passionate about improving access to care which led her to pursue a medical mission in Nigeria. Locally, she participated in community engagement programs to improve mental health literacy in communities of color.
After graduating from medical school, she matched to Medstar- Georgetown University Hospital for psychiatry residency. She transferred for PGY4 to the National Institute of Mental Health to develop her clinical research skills in medically ill populations. Dr. Okeke's future area of interest is addressing disparities in mental health care in minority patients and implementing interventions to overcome these barriers.
