Dr. Roberta De Oliveira, Assistant Professor at the Columbia University Medical Center, is the lead psychiatrist at the Comprehensive Health Program (CHP), which is a bilingual hospital-based, academically affiliated low threshold HIV center that provides primary care to a predominantly poor, minority and immigrant patient population in New York City. CHP serves over 4,000 people living with HIV/PrEP patients from a catchment area in which the risk of HIV transmission, disease progression and death from AIDS is nearly double the New York City average. Dr. De Oliveira completed her General Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry training at the University of Toronto. She completed her Fellowship in Consult-Liaison Psychiatry at the Montefiore Medical Center/Children’s Hospital at Montefiore. She has a special interest in the field of trauma spectrum disorders. At CHP, Dr. De Oliveira provides direct patient care and clinical supervision to various disciplines including psychiatric providers, behavioral health consultants and primary care providers. The latest initiative she is leading aims at implementing a trauma-informed care model to better address the needs of multiply traumatized individuals seeking medical care at a low threshold HIV center.
