Dr. Pirl received his B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania, his M.D. from Harvard Medical School, and completed psychiatry training at Massachusetts General Hospital. He was a psycho-oncology fellow at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and later earned a MPH at Harvard School of Public Health. He was on the faculty of Massachusetts General Hospital from 1999-2016, where he was the Director of the Center for Psychiatric Oncology and Behavioral Sciences. He joined Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in 2018 as Vice Chair for Psychosocial Oncology, Department of Psychosocial Oncology and Palliative Care.
