Dr. Krans is Assistant Professor of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh. She is a board-certified obstetrician-gynecologist, board-certified substance use treatment provider and clinician researcher whose NIH-funded research program seeks to improve health outcomes among women with substance use disorders and their children. Following her residency in obstetrics and gynecology, Dr. Krans received training in health services research as a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Clinical Research Scholar at the University of Michigan where she developed expertise in the development and evaluation of healthcare delivery models for pregnant and postpartum women with psychosocial risk factors such as substance use. She serves as an addiction medicine expert for the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) and has served on various state and federal taskforces and committees including co-chair of ACOG’s Consensus Bundle on Obstetric Care for Women with Opioid Use Disorder. As Director of the Pregnancy and Women’s Recovery Center at Magee-Womens Hospital, she has been providing clinical care for pregnant and postpartum women with substance use disorder for over 10 years.
