Carmen Casasnovas, MD, FAPA, is a graduate of the Universidad Iberoamericana Medical School in Dominican Republic. After medical school, she worked as an HIV general practitioner before moving to New York, where she completed her psychiatry residency training at Lincoln Hospital in the South Bronx. She went on to train as a Consult - Liaison Psychiatrist at Mount Sinai Beth Israel where she is currently the Assistant Director for the Consult- Liaison Psychiatry Fellowship Program and the Associate Director for the Psychiatry Residency Program. Her interests include trainee wellness and education; curriculum planning; Consultation- Liaison Psychiatry; HIV; DEI; Bioethics; and LGBTQ+ health. She has presented multiple workshops, at a national and international level, on topics related to HIV and Mental Health.
She has served as a Junior Board member and, then, as Secretary of the Society for Liaison Psychiatry; and is currently an Executive Council Member for NYCPS. She has been a recipient of the NYCPS’ Resident’s Committee “Outstanding Faculty Mentor” and the MSBI Psychiatry Department’s “Cynthia Zirinsky Award for Excellence in Research Mentorship” for her dedication to resident mentorship and education.
