Dr. Zein received her dual bachelor’s degrees in Anthropology and Physiological Science at UCLA, her Masters in Public Health at Johns Hopkins University, and medical degree at McGill Universityt During her psychiatry residency at New York University (NYU), Dr. Zein founded the IBH resident working group and designed a resident IBH didactic series as well as electives including HIV and psych-oncology. She also piloted a two-year resident training program in the CCM. As part of the two-year program she implemented a new CCM in one of NYU ’s FQHC sites. In her last two years of residency she was an APA Leadership Fellow, and served on the APA Consult-Liaison Psychiatry Committee. She completed residency as a chief resident and won awards for Excellence in Resident Teaching as well as for humanism and clinical excellence.
Dr. Zein completed her Consult Liaison Fellowship at Stanford and has remained as clinical faculty. She is currently serving as an attending psychiatrist on the inpatient consult services and also is working with Stanford Primary Care to develop and implement collaborative care programs in their primary care clinics. She leads the Stanford e-consult program for psychiatry, developed an 11-course neuroscience series for PGY2 psychiatry residents, and supervises residents in asylum and visa waiver evaluations. She is passionate about improving mental health care access and promoting diversity and inclusion as part of the role of a CL psychiatrist.
